Listed below are some of the more remarkable projects and events I have had the opportunity to be involved with:

2023

East Lothian Archaeology & Heritage Fortnight. A snapshot of my rewarding experiences at the this year’s events.

North Berwick Compass Point. Funded by the North Berwick Harbour Trust this circular plaque named the various landmarks that can be seen within the Firth of Forth.

In Search of Old Bill. The publication of this book, which I edited, discusses the life of Thomas Rafferty, and presents evidence that he is the best candidate for the original inspiration for the character creation of Captain Bruce Bairnsfather, ‘Old Bill’.

Haddington History Society. As part of an education pack, I was asked to produce a series of images to illustrate activities that would have occurred during medieval times.

Burial ground plans for Moray Burial Ground Research Group. I collaborated with Keith Mitchell, chair of the Moray Burial Ground Research Group (MBGRG), to produce a series of accurate burial ground plans to enable relatives to locate the resting place of their relatives.

2021
‘Wish You Were Here’ Originally planned for the year 2020, this exhibition of Scotland’s coast and sea at the Coastal Communities Museum in North Berwick is now open to the public having been delayed by the pandemic. The six large scale graphics panels I produced to accompany the exhibition focus on holiday activities that people can participate in at and around North Berwick. The translucent panels that the images are mounted upon sit snugly into the alcoves of the museums’ windows, and as such, create a dramatic ‘stained glass window’ effect. To see the images in person please book your visit at the museum’s website here: www.coastalmuseum.org.

Nairn Men of Their Times. I was approached to design the cover to the book ‘Nairn Men of Their Times’ by Irene Main Mackintosh. As well as designing the cover, creating the floral corner patterns, I also sourced the image of the atlas.

2020
Teaching session at Longniddry Primary School. I was invited to speak about medieval Pilgrimage to year 3/4 pupils at Longniddry Primary. I gave a short illustrated talk about the nature of pilgrimage, specifically focusing on the cult of St Andrew. The pupils could then make their own pilgrim badge of St Andrew as well as play a roll-and-move board game in which they assumed the role of pilgrims journeying to Jerusalem.

2019
An Engraved Landscape: Rock carvings in the Wadi al-Ajal, Libya. The two volume publication, (synthesis and gazeteer), of Libyan rock art which features many of my line illustrations has now been published by the Society for Libyan Studies to a warm reception.

2018
Scottish Genealogy Society Publication. My rendering of a communion token was used on the cover of one of the Society’s recent publications.

2017
Family History Day with East Lothian Council at the John Gray Centre Haddington. Activities included tile jigsaws and colouring in images seen upon Pictish stones.

A colour reconstruction of an earlier image I produced for East Lothian council: Mesolithic house at Barns Ness, East Lothian. This is for the summer exhibition at Dunbar Town House Museum entitled ‘Digging Up Dunbar’.
