Learning Resource: The Picts
Summer 2015
The Forestry Commission Scotland recently commissioned me to illustrate two of their publications for schools.
I was asked to provide ‘idealised’ black and white drawings that would sit alongside black and white photographs of the existing carvings, many of which were broken or badly weathered. The drawings I produced were designed to help children visualise how the carvings may have originally appeared.
A Pictish style rendering of the Red Riding Hood story was also produced to show how we readily connect with images and stories that are culturally familiar to us.
The Picts Learning Resource was shortlisted for the Best Public Presentation of Archaeology Award
